By Sawyer Phillips
Inspired by the painting “Museum Epiphany III” (2012) oil on canvas by Warren Prosperi!
Genuine observation forever belongs to the audience, who have the ability to see the true flaws in the creation and the creator.
Tell me a story.
I want to peer
inside your head.
I’m begging you to ! break my heart.
Lead me through every step you’ve tread
I want to frame you
Call you art
hang you above
my mantle piece
Just so I can tear
you apart.
I am your rival,
your muse,
that grumpy old critic,
I am that idea you’ll
never use
I stand in the gallery
With my hand on my chin
Feigning understanding
of all your reasons
all your sins
I stand in wondrous
Oblivion
At your chiseled
masterpiece.
I am the child you inspire years after you’re deceased
Tell me a story.
I want to excavate the
scars you thought you hid
Behind the paint and oil
canvas,
stone,
marble,
and the past
you thought you rid
